Syd’s artistic photography is inspired by the exchange between two people on either end of the camera. Creating spaces for women to feel confident and empowered in front of a camera drives her primary purpose and pleasure in photography.

A photo-relational project that spans two decades inspired by Audre Lorde’s “Uses of the erotic: the erotic as power”, is meant to ignite the collective power and resistance against Western ideologies about eroticism and pleasure by capturing moments when perhaps the most unlikely chore, routine, hobby or job, can be experienced seductively, powerfully & erotically. the women I photograph and myself, push beyond the boundaries of what is considered erotic to beyond what Lorde calls, “plasticized sensation” and through my camera lens explore and aim to capture the “measure between the beginnings of our sense of self and the chaos of our strongest feelings”.
